Portrait of Kyoden - Eiri CHOKYOSAI

A dark gray mica ground bust portrait of the poet Santo Kyoden. ca. 1795

There has been much confusion about this artist. Three artists have been considered as using "Chokosai", "Rekisentei" and "Shikyusai" with "Eiri"; or they might have been one person. He was a student of Eishi Hosoda.

  3. congrats!! a masterwork.. if.. its on sale? the price would be about how much range..? seems too very well preserved in state and the colouring of 227 years! this image is very powerful in capturing an instant and a personality in a few lines...

  4. Thank you! Yes it could be available for sale. I would need $6,000 US. It appears that it has always been in a private collection. I agree. It is a very strong print.

  5. Ok Thank you.! its a powerful portrait, as an Artist and Art Collector I could say that its comparable with Old Masters of Europe, the personality was captured with few lines, ..but Ooops.!.currently its a little out of my budget, but maybe later in this year could be possible.making a serious offer..just hava acquired an important tibetan old thanghka....meanwhile, if another serious collector wants it, its ok..anyway I THINK THAT SUCH original in excellent state its better than that are in some museums, you are fortunate in having it. a powerful image that trascends time and culture...a masterwork! congrats!
